Flashback Track Friday #75

Happy Friday! This track always floats my boat. What “water-themed” songs help you keep cool?

Songshine Sounds

Today’s flashback was inspired by Afrobeat musicians and video footage of preachers delivering sermons in half-speaking, half-singing voices. The ancient rituals that roll behind the music video of this song pay homage to the spiritual inspiration.

American new wave band Talking Heads wrote “Once in a Lifetime” like the other songs on the 1980 album, Remain in the light, by recording countless jam sessions and selecting the best parts to star in the last production.

Lead singer David Bryne says despite rumors contrary the song is about theunconscious:

“We operate half-awake or on autopilot and end up, whatever, with a house and family and job and everything else, and we haven’t really stopped to ask ourselves, ‘How did I get here?'”
