Have I Told You Lately

I wrote this for a fun challenge on AllPoetry: pick a song your mother loves or loved and craft a poem. This one is for my mother who loves Rod Stewart, and so I hope she likes it.

Burwell-Morgan Mill (Mother’s Day 2022)

Have I told you lately…
thank you for the push,
the piggyback,
the rainbows of ribbons
the piles of books.

Have I told you lately…
your face was home,
your arms safety,
your smile, a gold medal
I always won.

Have I told you lately…
I skate through the madness;
I find happiness in adventures.
mothering without smothering,
singing through sadness

’cause that’s what you did,
so that’s what I do.

Those two stanzas are just *chef’s kiss* beautiful! ❤
I'm certain she's hugely proud of how much you've blossomed 🙂

    • Why thank you, Tom. I enjoyed spending the afternoon with her yesterday. This old mill may no longer grind,m flour, but it was beautiful setting for a Mother’s Day rest.

    • Oh my. So sorry for your loss, Michele. I can only imagine the hole you feel around this holiday. Huge hug to you. My mother has told me she quite liked this one, so that was a huge relief to me.
