Happy Easter! I’m traveling today, so I thought I’d re-post some Easter-themed pieces from the past, you know, just in case you had time to hop by. This is a Quadrille (44 word poem) penned last year.
My Easter bunny heart
is decorated with care
but like a cavern
hollow
bite my ear
swallow
there’s a chamber bare
nothing survives there.
Keep the wrinkly wrapper
sealed
illusion of the deep
concealed
my heart’s no man’s feast
just not fit to eat.

A great write even though it conveys a sorrowful empty heart.

Thank you; Carol. I’ve encountered a few hollow hearts, but the worst are the hidden ones.

Delicious formula of words. Master Chocolatier.

Thank you, Mr. B. There’s not much one can’t do with the right mold and a helping hand. 😉

Yes, hollow and wrapped in glitter. Very sad.

Well written. That chocolate is bitter and dark.😒

Thank you, Hobbo. Thin shells are easily cracked. Of course, my heart’s been melted and reshaped many times.

May those hearts also know the joy of being compassionate.

There’s joy in Easter and it’s chocolate bunnies. Prevents tummy aches, too.;) Thanks for reading and commenting, Vandana.

Oh this really left me feeling sad, KH – you aced it. Seriously – aced. The metaphor works fantastically well.

Thank you kindly, David. Not sure why this came to me, but this one worked (sometimes they don’t turn out quite so coherent). Don’t worry, my hearts been melted many times

There is much contained within this foiled wrapper – lots to think about!

Thank you, Ingrid. I don’t know where it came from, other than the disappointment I often felt in discovering my Easter bunny was hollow and considering how the heart can become hardened. Sure it was for the best, those barren bunnies, considering the chocolate overload of the day.

Love your poem with very a very sad ending! Every heart needs to be unwrapped to enjoy the chocolate!

Aw, so very kind, Dwight. Scary this unwrapping of the heart, but truly there is freedom in letting one’s emotions go. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Thank you, Helen. I think it was my son’s face when he finally unwrapped his Easter bunny that made me do it. He held on to that thing quite a while, though. Stubborn, that one.

Uh oh. This speaks for someone wounded and not yet recovered. Woe is them.

Yes, it’s true. How the heart can grow cold. There’s still hope for this Easter Bunny heart, of that I’m sure.

The metaphor of the chocolate bunny is so clever! The last stanza is dark but feels so intimate, great write! 💗

Thank you, Tricia. Hollow or not, there’s a lot of layers to unwrap to get to some people’s heart.

this is a poetic treat… the style let to vibrant flow, which brought us crashing with the emptiness of a heart that metaphorically is not filled with Love! well written

Your verse spoke of sorrow but also resilience. Hearts are strange; breakable, moldable and often forgiving. Love this. ❤️
