My Easter Bunny Heart

Happy Easter! I’m traveling today, so I thought I’d re-post some Easter-themed pieces from the past, you know, just in case you had time to hop by. This is a Quadrille (44 word poem) penned last year.

My Easter bunny heart
is decorated with care
but like a cavern
hollow
bite my ear
swallow
there’s a chamber bare
nothing survives there.

Keep the wrinkly wrapper
sealed
illusion of the deep
concealed
my heart’s no man’s feast
just not fit to eat.

    • Thank you, Ingrid. I don’t know where it came from, other than the disappointment I often felt in discovering my Easter bunny was hollow and considering how the heart can become hardened. Sure it was for the best, those barren bunnies, considering the chocolate overload of the day.

    • Thank you, Helen. I think it was my son’s face when he finally unwrapped his Easter bunny that made me do it. He held on to that thing quite a while, though. Stubborn, that one.
