NaPoWriMo#14 Fairwell to Infancy

Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528)

May come as a shock!
It might surprise the lot
that I’ve no interest
in the everyday tot.

Rather talk scabies,
their pustules, and their spread,
than butterball babies
who’ve just held up their heads.

Done talking littles,
their potty training days.
Tantrums and spittle,
green vegetable spray.

Those days are long past,
I’m happy to report.
Farewell to infancy
raise your knife, spoon, and fork!

NaPoWriMo #15 Ask us to write about something you’ve absolutely no interest in. I decided to try a new format, a Breccbairdne, which is an Irish quatrain. Have you heard of it?

Here are the basic guidelines. I’ve included more rhyme than is necessary.

  • Quatrain (or four-line stanza) form
  • Five syllables in the first line; six syllables in the other three lines
  • Each line ends with a two-syllable word
  • Lines two and four rhyme
  • All end words consonate
