I awaken from a dream
to a crime scene:
bodies outlined in chalk,
questioning the witnessing walls
about what they’d seen.
But all leads disappear into the
sun’s nook–shapes from a childhood
coloring book. I’m left with crinkled covers
clues, memories pinned on a headboard,
tummy truths, and a rabid animal on my chest,
but I can’t recall the rest.
Blood splatter memories are brief,
and the white mountainside of the pillow
against clenched teeth–
a dental record sealed beneath.

Wow! Love it! And I’m not into crime fiction, as a rule. So tight and punchy and… spooky.

Thank you, John. I think, but enough gin. Then there was deciphering the early hour scrawls.

Well, the say it takes 10,000 hours of doing something to become a master. 😂Cheers to that.

You always create the most wondrous imagery, K. “and the white mountainside of the pillow against clenched teeth,
a dental record sealed beneath.” Seriously, that’s epic.
