This Highway’s No Home

Curdled milk clouds
after-Christmas crowds
zombie skin sky
separated lane divides,
the year is decomposing
and the golden nugget
headlights are fool’s gold,
‘cause this highways no home
and these roads, no jackpots.

Finally made it to my destination after a wicked and winding drive down south. Two days behind the wheel, and now I can finally say cheers to all of you.

    I like this one; the poem really gets going for me from the 5th line: the startling image of the year decomposing followed by the fool’s gold reference —
