A rocky stream never goes to bed,
flows like a blackout curtain
spilling me past the shallows
where I cling and gasp,
stranded on a sandbar
amongst a murky pool.
Blind to the bottom,
I undergo the river’s flow
yearning for an open mouth.

    1. Ty. I go with the flow even when it spits me out in stagnant waters. Ah, well, it’s still great to see what’s around the bend.

Oh, there went my dream of a gentle little stream!! I hope the stay on the sand bar proves healing!

    1. We have to be yearning or else we’re just a stagnant billabong, or so you’ve taught me. 😉

  4. Suffocation and danger are not easy to get out of once you get caught in the current of iffy choices (not choosing is also a choice.)

  5. Love the play on words with a stream never going to “bed.” I can feel both desperation and hope here.

    1. Sometimes the stream flows that way. Reached the end , so can’t be but so mad, right?

  13. KH, I unfailingly love your poetry.

A rocky stream never goes to bed,

This first line – by itself – was incredibly clever, let alone the rest of the poem ❤

  14. My heart skipped a few beats when I saw the video of Brandi … I have a ticket for her show here in Bend Oregon!!!! I love her. And I love how you described the dangers of ‘just going with the flow.’ True.

    1. Oh, that’s wonderful, Helen. Something to look forward to, for sure. I see she is playing near me this summer, but I’m not sure I can make the show. It’s a weeknight. Big fan of that amazing songwriter. Appreciate you stopping by and commenting.

  16. I still think its better to go with the flow than try to struggle against the current! But it’s not always easy…

    1. Thanks, Ingrid. Yes, I will keep bobbling along but just got a bit of a surprise downfall. Don’t think I’m a strong enough swimmer for anything else. 😂

  17. A stream dreams of the opening in which it becomes apart of the ocean. It life is rough, we can only hope for an opening of a brighter day… great metaphorical poetry.

    1. Wonderful extension; thank you. How very comforting to know there is an ocean that connects all streams be their stagnant or treacherous.
