Modern Haiku #1

Karen Hammat’s Bashō’s Pond

A Recent Rash of Haiku

In a tub of fog
the light shrivels and hope shrinks;
Plato pulls the plug.

Time craves strict endings–
Best let your life simmer as
it will be consumed.

Protect yourself from
hates harmful undercurrents;
ride the changing tide.

Black lives must matter;
starve hatred and prejudice
to achieve King’s dream.

The past is snakeskin;
slough the parasites that bind
to begin anew.

Lackadaisical…
Monday smells like Thursday now.
Why bother perfume?

Trust the silver scales;
balance is never an act
of kindness or faith.
